We come here every year and for good reason. Chipirones, chipirones, CHIPIRONES! Chipi-whatas? Chipirones. Tiny, iddy-biddy squid either grilled or fried. Or both. Every year we come to this restaurant and I order them. It began when I was 9 or 10 years old and accidentally ordered them instead of normal squid. I tried one and well the rest is history. I recently discovered that Pulpito in Tunbridge Wells serve them on their tapas menu and they're pretty decent but have nothing on La llar dels pescadors. La llar dels pescadors looks like your bog standard Spanish restaurant. Grumpy waiters, paper tablecloths and laminated menus. But it's homely and we love it. The food is always superb. Razor clams and anchovy bread to start. And here they are. Los Chipirones. Fried and grilled. Ok, so maybe they look like a bit of an anticlimax but these guys are so friggin' tasty and moreish.
The fried chipirones have a light batter but just enough to give a real crunch. The grilled chipirones are perfectly seasoned and tender. Give em' a good squeeze of lemon juice and you'll be asking for another plate in no time.
