A few more funky dishes from L'Escala, including the world's best pastries. Here's a few photos out and about from L'Escala. Nothing as fancy as Korpilombolo but delicious nonetheless. I suppose we should start with breakfast. I discovered these pastries last summer and I've been dreaming about them ever since. They may look like any other pain au chocolat but they are so much more than that. Half white chocolate and half milk chocolate split vertically down the middle. Mmmmmm...I haven't found them in England anywhere, so if anyone has seen these little guys please let me know! They're from the local supermercado and were about €1,65 or something. Most of the time for lunch we ate in but occasionally we'd nip out for a bite and compulsory fanta limón. A typical lunch at home consisted of fresh bread from the supermercado bakery, manchego, quince, pate, salad and figs. The figs are unreal, nothing like what we get in England. Oh and of course some allioli for chip n' dipz. We also cooked at home for dinner a couple of times which you'll see in my upcoming blog posts. But most of the time we'd wander down to the restaurants on the beach at Cala Montgó. One night we decided to take a gamble on this restaurant called El Golf Isabel. Most of the restaurants in La Punta look and serve the same sort of food for the same prices. Which is great, but nothing special. Over the years, we've sussed out which are the better restaurants but had never tried El Golf Isabel. From the outside it looks the same as the others with a similar menu. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was a slight cut above the rest and the staff were very accommodating. Foie gras with peaches and prunes. White wine clams. Crab and prawn cocktail. Medium rare fillet steak. Seafood paella. The paella was incredibly rich and caramelised, just the way I like it. If you fancy having a go at making your own, then check out my recipe here. And if all that food wasn't enough, sometimes back at the house when no one was looking we'd have a glazed donut and coffee, because we could. If you're in the mood for something light and typically Catalan then head to the restaurants on the beach where there's something for everyone.
Or if you fancy being slightly more adventurous, try El Golf Isabel and make sure you have the seafood paella!
